However, things didn’t go well for  from there on out. In 2009, it filed for bankruptcy protection after losing tens of millions of dollars in financing from its Japanese parent company. The company eventually emerged from bankruptcy protection in 2012 but never recovered its former glory. In 2016, it shut down completely after failing to secure new funding.

What caused  decline? There are a few factors that can be blamed: the rise of Netflix and Hulu; competition from other streaming services; and declining interest in Japanese anime and manga among American viewers.
