Jazzy Distefano was born in 1946 and raised in New York City, the son of an Italian immigrant father. As a child he showed his musical promise by learning to play the accordion and trombone, both of which he mastered on his own without formal training. As he grew older, Jazzy became interested in jazz music, playing the piano at home whenever he wasn’t outside playing stickball or baseball with friends or fishing on the Hudson River with his father.

How she got started

Born in Tokyo, Japan and raised in Toronto, Canada, Jazzy Distefano began playing piano at the age of 5. She was heavily influenced by her father who played jazz in clubs throughout Toronto. She attended the University of Southern California where she received a degree in jazz performance. Throughout her undergraduate career she had multiple high-profile gigs with notable artists including Taj Mahal, Stevie Wonder and The Black Eyed Peas.
She has toured extensively with Grammy Award Winner Meshell Ndegeocello and provided support for Anita Baker and Peter Frampton. Her first album Mirror features various collaborations with artists such as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Rick James.

Her experience as an artist

A lifelong musician, Jazzy has been playing the piano and singing since she was four years old. With her love of music and performing, her parents enrolled her in lessons when she was eight years old. She began teaching herself to play guitar at the age of twelve and started writing songs soon after that.
In 2015, Jazzy started posting cover songs on YouTube for fun.
She was soon discovered by several record labels and signed a publishing deal with Sony ATV Publishing in 2017. In 2018, she released an EP titled The Awakening. This EP is a collection of jazz standards with some original songs sprinkled throughout.
